Yesterday evening Max and I went to The Institute of Contemporary Art to hear ‘Jason Wu in Conversation.’  To say that I had a wonderful time would be an understatement.  Mr. Wu was charming, inspiring, intelligent, witty, and modest.  It was a real joy to hear him speak.  Basically, he’s someone that I would love to be friends with, and not just for the obvious fashion designer perks, but because he seemed like a wonderful person.  Mr. Wu was completely fascinating.  I share his belief in owning both practical and impractical pieces in your wardrobe, and his love of feathers, beading, and a little bit of lace.  Clothes are all about fantasy and fun, and fashion is combining that in a functional and wearable way, most of the time.  Personally, I have always admired Jason Wu’s talent and I love his romantic and very feminine aesthetic.  It seems as if Max really enjoyed himself as well last night, as he has declared Jason Wu his favorite women’s wear designer!  Overall, I hope that was not my last encounter with Mr. Wu and I wish him so much more success in his future!

As for my look, stripes and florals almost always go together, as long as they’re in the same pallet.  Heels and a leather jacket never hurt anyone either.

Head to toe floral is not for the faint of heart.  But, I opted to brave this look because the pattern on the jeans is so subtle, and because sometimes you need to take a fashion risk!  I’m just so excited to see flowers again that I might’ve gone a little overboard.

Fun And Flouncy

I aim to have some fun everyday, and I typically like to start having the fun as soon as possible.  Because I can’t eat cake every morning for breakfast, I get my kicks picking out an outfit.  How can I not have fun wearing a bright blue sweater, and flouncy leopard print skirt?  The answer is, it’s impossible.  So, do yourself a favor and pick out a happy outfit today.

Getting back to cake though, it’s Max’s birthday this weekend, so we will definitely be eating some for breakfast.  It’s a must on birthdays.  Now don’t forget to wish him a happy birthday and thank him for making this blog possible!  Happy Birthday Max!

I took a risk.  Clearly.  I took fashion advice from Duchess and wore head to toe plaid.  I’m thinking I should listen to her more often, because I quite enjoy this look.  The different sized patterns and the inverted colors are what make this work, instead of clashing with one another.  Duchess and Marc Jacobs circa 1992 would have gotten along famously I do believe.

Oh, and I have bangs now.  Duchess didn’t recommend them, but I think she likes my new look by the way she has failed to acknowledged it.

I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day.  The flowers, the candy, the cards, dressing up in red and pink, I love it all!  This year I tried to take the more “sophisticated” and “understated” route for thematic holiday dressing.  I wore the palest pink blouse with black hearts and a graphic leopard print skirt for a fun and flirty look that was a little less obvious.  Opaque black tights and menswear inspired heels grounded the girly pieces.

Truth: chocolate in a heart-shaped box given to you by someone you love tastes better.  Facts are facts.

This past Saturday some of my lady friends and I headed up to Kittery, Maine for a day of outlet shopping.  My goal was to be warm, comfortable, and fashionable while scoring some major deals.  Multiple layers kept me warm, low heeled ankle boots and a hands free purse kept me comfortable, and mixing patterns and textures had me feeling fashionable.  Check, check, and check!  All the layers did make trips to the dressing room a bit difficult, but it was so worth it!

Something strange happened the other day.  Temperatures in the city reached close to 60 degrees, and I wasn’t quite sure how to dress myself.  An orange blouse and houndstooth patterned jeans felt appropriate and fresh for the warm weather, but my faux fur vest and leopard print heels reminded me that it was still January.  Not to worry though, winter is back and I’m freezing again!
