I wanted to be comfy and sparkly this Christmas, and I would have to say mission accomplished.  A striped sequined sweater and cotton candy colored cords were the perfect family holiday attire.  It was a good thing I put some effort into my outfit because my family was some pretty steep competition, coming for dinner dressed to impress!

This is what I wore on Christmas Eve.  I usually wear a dress for the occasion, but I went with party pants and sky-high red heels instead.  I felt both festive and “grown up” at the same time.  However, my adult feeling was short-lived after my cousin told me my sweater reminded him of a muppet.  I was thinking it had more of a shag carpet look, so I guess a muppet is better.  And everyone likes muppets.

Happy Christmas Eve!!!

I’ve been home in Connecticut since Friday afternoon and I’ve been pretty busy with cooking, cleaning, errands, decorating, and relaxing.  Getting ready for the holidays can be tiring, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look nice and festive, clothing wise, while I’m wearing bags under my eyes.  I dressed up a simple t-shirt and jeans by wearing a gold studded sweater over my leather jacket, and topped it off with a sequined scarf.  This outfit took me from decorating the family tree and baking some goodies, to visiting family members for dinner, all while keeping me in the holiday spirit!

Patterned Peplum

H&M Top, Zara Coated Denim Pants, Aerosoles Heels, H&M Necklace, Asos Ring

This top may look like a painter’s drop cloth, but I think it’s a piece of art all on its own.  Not to mention, it’s a peplum style, which is very figure flattering, and it was just $14.95!  Inexpensive artwork can still be considered a treasure.  Maybe one day when I stop wearing it, I’ll have it framed.

On a side note, this is what I wore last week for Thanksgiving, and I just wanted to say that, among other things, I’m very thankful to all of you who read my blog everyday, especially mine and Max’s family members.

I’m feeling a little sad posting these pictures because Labor Day weekend in Maine always represents the end of the summer for me.  Everything closes at 2 PM in Ocean Park.  The lifeguards walk off the beach, all of the small shops along the shore close, and there’s a mass exodus of families leaving in their fully packed cars. However, I am getting a little joy out of these pictures because of how well my pants and fringed sweater match the weathered rope on this quaint walkway to the beach.

Happy Labor Day!

I spent the long weekend in Maine at my aunt’s vacation house in Ocean Park with family.  We spent time on the beach, got some pier fries, strolled along the Cliff Walk, and ate homemade chocolates from Dickinson’s Candy.  We also celebrated a couple of birthdays this weekend.  My youngest brother Anthony turned 21 and my cousin Stevie turned 30.  Happy Birthday guys!  Also, the Duchess spent all of her time playing with her golden retriever cousin, Tucker.  All in all, it was a great weekend.

Before heading to Virginia last Friday, I made a pit stop at Jade Salon in Stratford, CT where my Master Stylist, and friend, Derrick Driver upgraded me to official summer hair. He called this color “white gold,” and I couldn’t be happier with it.  Derrick’s been doing my hair for at least 10 years now, and even though I live in Boston, and have since 2004, I refuse to see anyone else.  As embarrassing as this is to admit, I actually drive to Connecticut just to get my hair done by Derrick.  It’s so worth it!  He takes the time to consider what color and style will look best on you individually, and will always give you his honest opinion.  So, when I was at my appointment with him on Friday, I took the opportunity to show him the dress I was wearing to the wedding and ask him how I should style my hair for the event.  Derrick suggested a sleek, unfussy ponytail so as not to take away anything from my very detailed dress that was the focus of my look.  As you can see, I followed his lead and went with the pony! You can follow and “like” Derrick on Facebook at his page Hair by Derrick Driver, and I’ll be posting there on occasion.

Moving on to my outfit, I have fallen in love hard with this dress.  I get really excited when I’m about to wear it!  I think it’s simple and romantic, yet very intricately detailed at the same time.  It is extremely comfortable and easy to wear, and looks great with either flats (which I threw on for dancing) or heels.  The dress is really more of a peach color than it shows up as in these pictures.  I assure you that I didn’t try to take any attention away from the beautiful bride by wearing a white dress! Also, I kept my jewelry and makeup simple for the occasion and just let the dress do its thing!

It’s not often that my whole family is dressed up together, so we took a moment at the reception to get some family photos.  I think we all look pretty great!
