A Side of Mustard

LOFT Top, American Eagle Jeans, BCBG Heels, J. Crew Clutch

I love a monochromatic look.  I wear head to toe black practically every other day.  When it comes to mustard yellow though, I tend to err on the side of caution.  It’s one of the few shades of yellow that I can wear as a blonde, and I do not take that lightly.  I find that this shade works best for me in small doses and in a modest cut.  I really like the feminine feel this top gives to my distressed boyfriend jeans, and it’s simplicity allows me to have fun with accessories, like a red lip, color-blocked clutch, and leopard print slingbacks.

H&M Tweed Jacket, LOFT Sweater, American Eagle Jeans, John Fluevog Boots, Vintage Purse

Sometimes the best outfits come together accidentally.  By chance this tweed jacket and striped sweater were hanging next to each other in my closet.  I was just beginning to think that I had nothing to wear when I spotted them.  A pair of distressed denim, lilac studded boots, and a vintage purse later, the rest is history.  This is the perfect combination of pulled together and comfortable for a rainy afternoon spent at the museum.  I knew that I probably did too much outfit planning in my head, but now I know I’m doing it subconsciously as well.

American Eagle Jeans, Bass Boots, Muttluks Dog Booties

Duchess and I love a good walk, sometimes two or three a day!  But being outdoors so often calls for footwear that’s comfortable and can stand up to the elements.  At our house we love a good pair of shoes, and in addition to walking shoes being practical they also need to be fashionable.  My suede ankle boots have a low heel, are incredibly comfortable, and are transitional from season to season.  Duchess’s Muttluks are lined with fleece, completely waterproof, and only take about 10 minutes to put on.  At first she was not a fan, but I insist she protect her perfect little paws from the ice and salt.  On occasion Duchess looses a shoe, and we have to do a re-lap, but we’re working on it.  #Cinderellaproblems

Saks Off Fifth Top, LOFT Jeans, BCBG Heels, H&M Necklace and Purse, Charles Hubert Watch

A striped top and boyfriend jeans have their place in everyone’s wardrobe, and combined they’re pretty much my off duty uniform.  This weekend I strayed from my usual flats and tote bag accessories and dressed up my basics with an edgy necklace, a fun fringed purse, and leopard print heels.  This was not as comfortable or practical as I’m used to dressing during down time, but a fancier look is usually the winner in my book.

One gray day plus one gray outfit does not add up to a sunny disposition.  But throw in the closest thing I have to a technicolor dream coat and it’s a different story!  I have yet to master working this coat into my everyday wardrobe without looking a little crazy.  However, when I find myself wearing neutral basics, this coat adds just the right amount of polish and whimsy.
